Transparent Summer: Redefining Residential Space

In this groundbreaking design, Chen introduces a bold concept by placing an ice cube in the core of the apartment. Through the clever use of color reflection and an adjustable partition wall, the space transcends conventional boundaries, allowing for a seamless integration of various functions.

What sets Transparent Summer apart is the emphasis on reimagining the value of an apartment. The ice cube, symbolizing the main core of the space, serves as a unifying element that combines different functions within its boundaries. By connecting the living room and dining area, the cube creates a sense of openness and fluidity.

The design team employs innovative techniques to maximize the available space. By placing the table in the middle of the apartment, the living room is expanded, providing a spacious and inviting atmosphere. Additionally, an iron piece and shelf are cleverly utilized to create a walk-in closet, while glass doors in the bedroom enhance the feeling of openness.

The realization of the Transparent Summer design is achieved through the use of wooden tiles, plating metal, and glass. These materials not only contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal but also ensure durability and functionality.

With an area of 90 square meters, this design showcases the perfect blend of modern industrial style and apartment living. The project, designed in 2018 and completed in 2019, is located in Taipei, Taiwan.

Overcoming challenges is an integral part of any design process, and Transparent Summer is no exception. Concealing the air conditioner pipe presented a significant hurdle. To address this, the team devised a creative solution by designing a beam that houses the lighting fixtures, effectively hiding the power supply and air conditioner pipes.

Transparent Summer is a testament to the designers' commitment to innovation and reimagining traditional spaces. By placing the ice cube at the heart of the apartment, Chen and his team have created a truly unique and captivating living environment.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020.
